The Phantom’s Revenge

We were lucky enough to snag an interview with the funky fresh French favorite THE PHANTOM”S REVENGE! Enjoy check out his Feature Friday!

1) When did you start producing music?
about 3 years and a half ago
2) What made you interested in producing French House/Disco House?

i blame everything on Paul Johnson
3) Many house enthusiasts believe that the best music is coming out of France right now. Any particular reason why that maybe true?
The best reason would be because indeed a lot of great music is coming out of France, then i think that good music can come out of anywhere, this enthusiasm in my opinion is mostly due to the overuse of the words “french touch”
4) What is your musical background?
i don’t have any particular background, i’m not a musician, i just found out 10 years ago that music had a big influence on me and so i started to mix just for my own fun
5) You have some amazing samples. Did you grow up listening to Disco?
not really, i grew up listening to the same shit as anybody in the 90′s, my love for disco has emerged when i was 15 i think, when my interest for house music was growing up, house was the beginning of everything, house led me to disco and then to every other kind of music
6) When are you coming the states next?
We love your music over here!I’ve played in the states in 2009 and i loved every single minute of this trip, the parties, the people, everything, i hope to come back as soon as possible, i’m actually trying to manage some kind of tour, if you read this and are interested, please get in touch ;)
7) What hardware and software do you generally use to produce with?
i don’t use any hardware, the way i produce is really simple (according to the tools i use i mean), i use mainly Fruity Loops and feed it with some external plugins
8) There is a surge of laptop producer these days. Any advice you would give to these young producers?

quality over quantity

9) What sample do you use in “Saturated Phat Impact”. It’s truly amazing!
i don’t usually do this but considering that some people have already spotted the sample on youtube, i can let go this one, it’s O’Brian – Right From The Start
10) Let’s say you were stranded on an funky disco Island for the rest of your life. What 3 albums would you need to have?
so we’re taking about strictly funky disco music here ? it’s hard to say, i don’t use itunes on my computer and my music folder is organised alphabetically regardless of album, so most of the times i can’t tell if a song belongs to a particular album (you people probably don’t need those informations), anyway that being said, if i was stranded on a funky disco island i’ld need to make sure to have some Chic, O’Jays & Sylvester records
