Owl Vision
How did you end up getting into the music scene?
It came to me a while after I started to listen to hiphop music. I felt like I could make those beats and that I really knew how I wanted them to sound.
Then one day my friend downloaded fruity loops to his computer and shared it with me. We started to play around, making beats and remixing tracks with popular acapellas. It just felt great so I continued doing so (not with fruity loops though).
After reading your last.fm page bio, it seems like you’ve had a pretty diverse career. What kinds of stuff have you done/ been involved in throughout your music career?
A fun fact that most people don’t know is that I produced a track for a bunch of well known underground rappers that didn’t get released until after I quit making hiphop beats. For people who know hiphop the rappers are “Vinny Paz” from Jedi Mind Tricks, “Apathy” and “Celph Titled”.
As far as my career in dance music goes I’ve mostly focused on producing by myself sticking to my own little projects. Trying to keep it reals as they say, haha.
How did you find the transition from making hardcore hip-hop beats to producing nasty, in your face electro?
Mainly because I got tired of looking and waiting for the right rappers to put lyrics on my tracks to make them complete. That’s why I started to make instrumental tracks.
Then I tried out some software synthesizers and got hooked. At first my beats where much slower but as I wanted them to get harder and nastier the bpm increased. I finally bought my first real analogue synthesizer and a soundcard and started twisting knobs and recording.
I know you’re a fan of analogue synths. Do you try and work with analogue gear exclusively, when producing Owl Vision tracks? Or do you play around with all sorts of fun toys?
I mostly use analogue synths because I like the feeling of making the sounds directly in the machines.
But I throw in some nice software sounds now and then. If it feels like it fits.
How did Owl Vision, the project and the name, come about?
Oh, how the name “Owl Vision” came about has got a lot of different stories. All I can say is that I’m really facinated by owls and their attack techniques.
You should google it!
What types of music did you listen to growing up?
I was really into thrash metal and really hardcore metal for a long while then after that I mainly listened to 90′s hiphop.
But the whole time I’ve been very open to all kinds of good music. Especially music with energy and power.
If you weren’t doing Owl Vision, what kind of music do you think you’d be producing?
Haha, probably like 80′s gothic synth pop music.
If you weren’t doing music, what could you see yourself doing?
My path was always to be a designer or illustrator so I’ve always painted and drawn a lot.
Music just kind of got in the way and took over. I studied art so probably an artist.
How would you not describe your music?
Soft.
What can we expect to see/hear from Owl Vision in the near future? Any sweet plans in the works?
Lot’s of remixes coming up very soon. And I also have plans in my head for an upcoming album or EP.
I’ll try get out touring and play my music as much as I can around the world. I’ve already got a bunch of gigs on the way that will be announced pretty soon.
Look for updates about that on my blog!
If you were trapped in a submarine with only 3 albums and 2 random things in your backpack, what would they be and why?
2 random things is the easy part
= A pen and a pad
3 albums is a bit harder but as I feel at the moment I’d probably bring
= Aphex Twin – Drukqs, Depeche Mode – Speak & Spell and Death From Above 1979 – You’re a Woman, I’m A Machine
