Yes Giantess

We sat down with Joey of Yes Giantess to interview him on his journey into the Djing world…

BB: What made you decide to experiment with DJing?
J: I didn’t understand it at all. I just wanted to figure out how it was happening, and what separated those DJ’s that could make people dance, with those who cleared a dance floor. Still haven’t figured out the last part…
BB: What is your setup?
J: I run Ableton Live with a super cheap M-Audio MIDI controller. It isn’t much, but it gets the job done!
BB: Do you have a DJ name and if so does it have a story behind it?
J: DJ Safe Sex. Its half story, half joke. Telling the story would be inappropriate, but I think you can figure out how it came about… (I don’t, nor have I ever contracted an STD.)
BB: How do you see your DJing influencing your role in Yes Giantess?
J: As of now, I’m the only DJ in the band, so I’m meeting a whole different crowd from the rest of the guys and getting to do things the others don’t get to, (and maybe don’t want to) do. It’s a lot of fun though. A lot of my DJing success has come from band gigs. Watch out of YG DJ number two, DJ Dragon Balls Z (Jan Rosenfeld) surfacing later this summer.
BB: How involved are you with the Yes Giantess remixes and should we be expecting any new remixes soon?
J: We’re always getting new remixes. Jan’s been taking on most of them. (He did the Miley one and that really took off). Recently, I’ve been spending my remix time on random things, like the remix I’m sending with this interview. I think you’ll love it. I live in Baltimore, so I’m obsessed with Baltimore Club and the surrounding culture. If you don’t know Bmore Club, check out the likes of Rod Lee, James Nasty, Johnny Blaze, Scottie B, and K-Swift.
BB: Favorite DJ at the moment?
J: Shuttle. No doubt. Figure out how he does it and you can take over the world.
